Title: "Madonna and Child"

Artist: Erin Leeper, Loveland, Colorado. Erin is a self-trained folk artist. "My Ethereal Icons are joyful contemporary folk art versions of those well-known old school holy cards. If one of my paintings elicits feelings of comfort, joy and most importantly that feeling of being loved, my work is done." The artist reserves all copyrights.

Media: Original folk art painting in acrylic on canvas.

Date: 2019

Dimensions: 25" h x 21" w x 1" d, framed.

Features:  The original art is framed in a wide black softwood frame.

Condition: New, original.

Notes: The Madonna stands sweetly in a red and soft pink gown decorated with flourishes of bronze paisley. The Queen of Heaven wears a crown of gold with a lavender floral veil. She is holding her Son, the Christ Child who wears a vibrant dress of red and orange wildflowers. Each holds a rosary. They are encircled by a halo-wreath of blue butterflies and pink wildflowers. The blue butterfly is a symbol of joy, happiness and transformation. Blue is the color of the Blessed Mother, Queen of Heaven. Pink wildflowers on a colorful paisley pattern add a regal background. Flowers and butterflies belong together; they need each other for survival.

Inspiration:

I tell of hearts and souls and dances...Butterflies and second chances;

Desperate ones and dreamers bound, Seeking life from barren ground,

Who suffer on in earthly fate, The bitter pain of agony hate.

Might but they stop and here forgive, Would break the bonds to breathe and live

And find that God in goodness brings, A chance for change, the hope of wings.

To rest in Him, and self to die, and so become a butterfly.
