This unique mosaic cross celebrates the Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River by his cousin, St. John the Baptist. This scene heralds the beginning of the public ministry of Christ. The cross features excerpts of the Our Father, the prayer Christ taught us. The Holy Spirit, represented by the dove, gently descends upon Christ as he receives the sacrament. A voice from heaven addresses the crowd, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." -Matthew 3:17
The cross measures 12' by 9" by 1" and is designed as a wall cross. The wood cross base is embellished with glass and mixed media treasures. It would be the perfect gift to commemorate the Baptism of a Catechumen.
The cross is created by Julie Wishmeyer, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Art Institute of Chicago. "I am fascinated with minute detail, daring expression and bold design. My functional art is an assemblage of treasures that truly transform the objects they adorn into something extraordinary."
